Global Leaders Unite in Tokyo to Address Cybersecurity Challenges

We were delighted to participate in the 14th International Cybersecurity Symposium, which began today in Tokyo. The event, titled "Digital Cyber Security for National Security, Economic Security, and Societal Security," brings together leaders from around the world to tackle some of the most pressing cybersecurity challenges of our time.

Day one focused on National Security and the role of frameworks like Five Eyes, AUKUS, Quad, and NATO. The discussions emphasized the need for multilateral alliances in cybersecurity, with lessons drawn from current global conflicts, including the situation in Ukraine, to bolster preparedness in other regions, such as Taiwan. Experts from The MITRE Corporation, Keio University, and other institutions shared insights into protecting critical infrastructure, stressing that cybersecurity must be approached collaboratively, given the interconnectedness of global digital systems.

Among the international representatives, Israeli Minister and Deputy Chief of Mission Assaf Segev spoke about the massacre of Israeli citizens and other nationalities by the Hamas terrorist organization on October 7 last year, and the link between traditional and cyber terrorism. Mr. Segev emphasized that cyber threats have the potential to impact not only data but humans live directly.

The symposium is hosted by Keio University’s Global Research Institute, Cyber Civilization Research Center, Cyber Security Research Center, The MITRE Corporation (Massachusetts Institute of Technology Research and Engineering), and the International Cybersecurity Center of Excellence (INCS-CoE), which includes leading universities worldwide, such as Israel’s Technion. We look forward to the upcoming sessions on economic and societal security.
